Aluminium Side-Hung Windows – Inward Opening


Also referred to as a side-hinged or turn window, a side-hung inward opening aluminium window is attached to the one vertical side of the frame by hinges and open inwards towards the room. When it is fully opened, it provides maximum ventilation and easy access.

Design and Aesthetic


  • Thermally broken profiles as standard 
  • Aluminium inward opening side-hung windows are constructed from slim profiles. For a standard-size window’s visible width (frame+vent) is between 60mm – 100mm.   
  • Large size side-hung inward opening windows constructed with thicker profiles. 
  • Side-hung windows can be constructed from visible butt hinges, or concealed friction stays. 
  • Aluminium inward opening windows usually come in different styles and appearance like standard, classic, steel-look, hidden vent. 
  • Different colour and finish options for profiles: standard powder coated, textured metallic finishes, anodizing finished, etc.

Size limitations


  • A standard-size side-hung window sash measures up to 900mm at width and 1500mm at height and weighs up to 70kg. 
  • A large-size window sash measures up to 1.5 metres at width and 2.8 metres at height. Thicker profiles, and different hardware and hinges are used to bear the weight of the window sash.

  • Side-hung windows can be combined with side, top or bottom fixed lights.

Glazing options


  • Double glass with Ug=1.0 W/m2K is a standard option.
  • Triple glass options with Ug=0.5 W/m2K for better thermal performance.
  • Laminated glass options for security and/or acoustic insulations.

Safety & Security Options


  • Aluminium inward opening side-hung windows usually comes with a standard multi-point locking system.
  • Burglar resistance classes of RC2 or RC3 are also available as security options.
  • PAS24 security options for outward opening windows to be installed on ground floors.
  • Restrictors can be used to limit the amount of opening of the side-hung aluminium windows for safety.
